Wednesday Addams Costume 2026: Braids, the Black Dress and the Striped Addams Suit

Almost nobody searching for a Wednesday Addams costume is describing the same garment. Some people mean the Nevermore Academy uniform — black blazer, striped tie, pleated skirt. Some mean the black collared dress with the white Peter Pan collar from the 1991 film. Some mean the Rave'N ball dress. And a large number mean "the braids and something black," because that is what actually reads as Wednesday in a photograph. This guide separates those four looks, tells you which parts of the outfit are doing the work, and is honest about which pieces we stock and which we do not.

The Four Looks People Mean by "Wednesday Costume"

  • The Nevermore Academy uniform — navy-to-black blazer with the school crest, striped tie, pleated skirt. The most screen-accurate answer to the Netflix series, and the most expensive to assemble because the crest and the tie stripe have to be right or the whole thing reads as generic schoolwear.
  • The black collared dress — long-sleeved, knee-length, fit-and-flare, with a pointed white collar and cuffs. This is the 1991 film silhouette and it is by far the most recognisable at a distance. It is also the cheapest to build, because a plain black dress plus a collar does most of it.
  • The Rave'N dress — the black tiered dress from the dance scene. Recognisable to people who watched the series, invisible to people who did not.
  • The all-black minimum — twin braids, black clothes, deadpan face. Not a costume so much as a silhouette, and it works better than it should.

If you only take one thing from this page: the braids and the collar carry the character; the fabric does not. Two black plaits, a centre part and a pointed white collar are legible from across a dark room. A perfect blazer with the wrong hair is not.

The Hair Is the Costume

Wednesday's hair is a dead-centre part with two long plaits, and it is the single element that no substitute covers. Our Morticia Addams / Wednesday Addams cosplay wig is $7.44, one colourway (black), with six photographs on the listing and the single variant currently orderable.

Be clear about what arrives, because this is where listings usually oversell: it ships as a long, centre-parted, loosely waved black wig — not as pre-set braids. That is the Morticia state of the same wig, and it is the right starting point for Wednesday for two reasons. The centre part is already where Wednesday's part goes, so you are not re-parting a wig cap and exposing the netting. And the wave gives the plait grip — a poker-straight fibre wig braids loose and slides out by the second hour, which is exactly the complaint people bring back from a night out.

To convert it: comb through with a wide-tooth comb, split at the existing centre part, plait each side from just behind the ear, and tie off with a small clear elastic. Do it the night before, not in the car. The fibre is a high-temperature-resistant synthetic, so a low-heat straightener can set the plait if you want the sharper series look — low heat, one pass, and let it cool completely before you move it. Never use a curling wand at cotton-fabric temperatures on synthetic fibre; that is how a $7.44 wig becomes a $0 wig. Our Halloween wig guide covers washing, storage and the heat rules in full, and the rest of the range is in Cosplay Wigs.

The Striped Addams Suit: What It Is, and Who It Is For

The Wednesday striped cosplay costume is $19.86 — and that is one flat price across all 24 variants, with all 24 currently orderable and ten photographs on the listing.

Read the variant names before you order, because the listing name is the show and the garment is the father: this is the Gomez pinstripe suit, the grey-on-black vertical stripe from the Addams family wardrobe. The packing list is coat, shirt, trousers and bow tie — four pieces, polyester — and it comes in two lapel styles, double-breasted or single-breasted, which you choose as part of the size variant rather than as a separate option.

So it is not a Wednesday costume on its own. It is the piece that turns one Wednesday into an Addams family group, which at $19.86 for four pieces is the cheapest way we know to make a duo or a family read as one idea instead of three separate people in black. Pair it with the wig above on your Wednesday, and if you want a third, our Morticia Addams costume guide covers the gown shape and hair for the Morticia half. More multi-person builds are in the family Halloween costumes guide.

Sizing: Read the Numbers, Not the Letters

The striped suit runs XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL for adults, plus five children's sizes at 110, 120, 130, 140 and 150 cm — in both lapel styles, which is where the 24 variants come from.

Two things worth saying plainly, because they are the two ways this order goes wrong:

  • The children's sizes are heights, not ages. 130 cm means a child who measures 130 cm tall, roughly 4 ft 3 in. Measure the child against a wall before you pick; a "size 8" instinct is not transferable here.
  • Cosplay suiting is cut slim through the chest and short in the sleeve compared with a high-street suit in the same letter. If you are between sizes on a tailored jacket, take the larger one — a slightly roomy Gomez jacket looks like a Gomez jacket, and a tight one looks like a school blazer you have outgrown.

Measure chest, waist, hips and height with a soft tape over light clothing and compare against our cosplay size guide rather than guessing from a letter. If the listing does not answer your exact question, email mail@magicstories.co and ask us for the garment measurements before you order. We would rather answer a sizing email than process a return, and we will tell you if we think a size is wrong for your numbers.

What We Do Not Stock, and What to Look For Instead

Being straight about this is more useful than a hedge: we do not currently list a Nevermore Academy uniform, a Rave'N dress, or a black dress with the pointed white collar. If that is specifically what you came for, we do not have it today, and we would rather say so than sell you a black dress that is not the right shape.

If you are assembling the collared-dress look from parts, here is what actually matters when you judge a candidate dress from a photo:

  • Silhouette: fitted bodice, slight flare from the waist, hem at or just below the knee. A bodycon black dress reads as a party dress, not as Wednesday.
  • Sleeves: long and plain. Sleeveless kills the silhouette instantly.
  • Collar: pointed and white, sitting flat. A detachable collar over a plain black dress is a legitimate and much cheaper route than hunting a single garment.
  • Black: a true flat black. Charcoal, navy and washed-out black all photograph as "dark clothes" rather than as a costume.

Black bases, capes and accessories that suit the build are in our Halloween collection (318 items) and the wider Cosplay Costumes range (211 items). Add flat black shoes or short black boots, and skip the fake blood — Wednesday is not a gore costume, and the restraint is the joke.

Shipping, Returns and When to Order for 31 October

Delivery usually takes up to 10 working days, and international orders average about 15 business days depending on your country's customs. Shipping is free on US and international orders over $70; below that it is a flat $9.99 in the US and $14.99 international. Orders to Africa ship free over $199, with a $29 flat rate below that. A $19.86 suit plus a $7.44 wig is $27.30 — under the threshold, so factor the flat rate in, or use the gap to add the third family member's pieces.

We have a 30-day return policy running from the day the item arrives. The item has to come back unworn, with tags, in its original packaging, and you need to email mail@magicstories.co to request the return first — we send a label and instructions, and parcels posted back without a request are not accepted. EU orders carry a 14-day cancellation right on top of that. Practical version for a four-piece suit: try the jacket on before the bow tie and shirt leave their packaging.

Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, 31 October. Working back from a 10-working-day delivery window, 16 October is the last domestic order date that is not a gamble, and 2 October is the date to aim for if you want room to return a size and reorder. International buyers should work from the 15-business-day average: 9 October at the latest, mid-September for exchange room. Past those dates, our last-minute Halloween costumes guide is the honest fallback — and the braids-plus-black-clothes version of Wednesday is genuinely one of the best last-minute costumes there is.

Quick Answers

  • What do you need for a Wednesday Addams costume? Three things, in order of importance: twin black braids with a centre part, a plain black long-sleeved dress or the Nevermore-style uniform, and a pointed white collar. The hair does most of the work — a centre-parted black wig plaited into two braids reads as Wednesday even before anyone sees the dress.
  • Do you sell a Nevermore Academy uniform? No. We do not currently list a Nevermore uniform, a Rave'N dress, or a black dress with the pointed white collar. What we do stock for this look is the black centre-part wig at $7.44 and the four-piece striped Addams suit at $19.86 for the family pairing.
  • Is the Wednesday striped cosplay costume the Wednesday character? No — it is the Gomez pinstripe suit from the Addams family wardrobe, listed under the show's name. It is coat, shirt, trousers and bow tie in polyester for $19.86, in double-breasted or single-breasted lapels, and it is what you buy to turn one Wednesday into a family group.
  • What sizes does the striped Addams suit come in? XS through XXXL for adults, plus children's sizes at 110, 120, 130, 140 and 150 cm, in both lapel styles — 24 variants in total, all currently orderable at one flat $19.86 price. The children's sizes are heights, not ages: 130 cm means a child measuring 130 cm tall.
  • Does the Wednesday Addams wig come with braids already in it? No. It arrives as a long, centre-parted, loosely waved black wig, which is the Morticia state of the same piece. You plait it yourself — split at the existing centre part, braid from just behind each ear, tie off with clear elastics. The wave is an advantage: braids grip in waved fibre and slide out of poker-straight fibre.
  • Can you straighten or curl a synthetic cosplay wig? This one is high-temperature-resistant synthetic fibre, so a low-heat straightener can set a plait — low heat, one pass, and let it cool fully before moving it. Never take a curling wand to synthetic fibre at the temperature you would use on your own hair; the fibre melts rather than curls.
  • How much does a Wednesday Addams costume cost? The hair is $7.44 and the striped Addams suit for the family pairing is $19.86 — $27.30 for both, which is under our $70 free-shipping threshold, so add the $9.99 US flat rate ($14.99 international). The black dress element you would source separately; a plain black fit-and-flare dress plus a detachable white collar is the cheapest honest route.
  • When should I order a Wednesday costume for Halloween 2026? Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October 2026. Order by 16 October at the latest for US delivery (up to 10 working days), or by 2 October if you want room to return a size and reorder. International orders average about 15 business days, so 9 October is the latest sensible date and mid-September gives you an exchange window.
  • Can I return a costume if the size is wrong? Yes — 30 days from the day it arrives, unworn, with tags, in the original packaging. Email mail@magicstories.co to request the return first and we send a label and instructions; parcels sent back without a request are not accepted. EU orders also have a 14-day cancellation right.
